After a nearly 3 hour long show, and an insane number of juries casting their votes (I lost count how many there were...) we had a winner. Portugal is one of the really unlucky Eurovision countries, never having achieved a better placing than coming 6th. I think they were totally robbed last year with Vania Fernandes' "Senhora Do Mar (Negras Aguas)" only coming 13th, in my opinion their best entry to date without a doubt. Last night they chose...
SONG: Todas As Ruas Do Amor
ARTIST: Flor-De-Lis
With 12 mediocre to really awful entries in their national final they luckily chose one of the best. And it was a really clear win for Flor-De-Lis too. This is a very folky tune, a strong and very nice vocal. It will certainly stand out in Moscow in May. But I am not sure it will make a good enough impact as this song does not have a very memorable hook or catchy chorus. Neither is it the type of song that tends to qualify. However, stranger things have happened! Also, with countries like Spain voting in their semi final it may still have a chance. Would love to see Portugal once again in the final even if I don't think this song is as strong as last year.
Portugal will compete in semi final 1.
VERDICT: 5 out of 10
