The second country to select their entry last night was Latvia. This is the country who gave us the infamous pirates last year. It is still a mystery to me how they managed to get into the final with that. Their success in Eurovision has been like a yo-yo, with memorable entries like 2000's "My Star", 2002's winner "I Wanna" and 2005's "The War Is Not Over" being the highlights, and just as often ending up in the bottom half of the scoreboard. This year though they have selected....
Song: Sastregums
Artist: Intars Busulis
After the horrible entries of Armenia and Bulgaria I thought things could get no worse. This is as annoying as it gets. Luckily they are in tune (not a sure thing in Eurovision!) but it doesn't help much with poor material like this.... The song is quite messy and quite annoyingly aggressive. The title of the song translates as 'Rush Hour' and lies in the rock/punk genre. Painful to listen to, I don't think even with neighbourly voting this can be saved (and they have practically all their neighbours in semi final 2). Sorry, Latvia, no final for you this year...
VERDICT: 1 out of 10
