Last night Croatia selected their Eurovision entry. This is a country whom I have enjoyed several Eurovision entries from, in addition to being responsible for most of the entries coming from Yugoslavia in the 1980s. Who could forget songs like Daniel's "Julie" (1983), Doris Dragovic's "Zeljo Moja" (1986) or Riva's winner "Rock Me" (1989). In the 1990s they continued their success as a nation of their own with memorable songs like Maja Blagdan's "Sveta Ljubavi" (1996), Danijela's "Neka Me Ni Svane" (1998) and Doris Dragovic's "Marija Magdalena" (1999)... Unfortunately in later years I feel they haven't been able to come up with songs and artists of the same standard, and last evening they selected...
SONG: Lijepa Tena
ARTIST: Igor Cukrov
Unfortunately I feel this is another disappointing song coming from Croatia. They had several good songs in their national final including entries from Feminnem and Franka, so it is a pity they have selected this in my opinion. It is another ballad, like so many other countries have opted for this year, with a touch of Balkan ethnicity. I can see this being popular with the other Balkan countries, and therefore likely to qualify as they have many of their neighbours voting in semi final 2.
VERDICT: 3 out of 10
